Pacific Destinations Donates Services to $1.9 million Tsunami Relief Fundraiser
Pacific Destination Services Inc. donated their event services to a private fundraising event for Tsunami Relief, which showcased lived performances by Rod Stewart, Robin Williams, Sarah McLachlan, and other Canadian and International stars. The event was organized by a prominent West Vancouver family and hosted in their spectacular waterfront home on January 30, 2005. A total of $1.9 million in donations was raised from the 150 attending guests for charities aiding in tsunami relief including Oxfam, Care Canada, War Child and Doctors Without Borders.

Pacific Destination Services’ event team created an “Ethereal Elegance” theme which radiated throughout the house, from the live Birch tree filled foyer to the elegant buffet overflowing with flowers, crystals and candles, to the vintage black and white cigar lounge created on the outdoor tented patio. To compliment the French Colonial
architecture of the home, luxurious textures and a classic colour scheme of ivories, creams and whites were used. Entertainment organizer Sam Feldman was quoted as saying the decor was “as elegant and incredible as anything I’ve seen anywhere.”

The evening’s entertainment line up echoed the public fundraising concert held at GM Place in Vancouver. Along with Stewart, Williams and MacLachlan, the Barenaked Ladies, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace all donated their time and efforts to be part of the festivities. “It was really something,” said Sam Feldman, as quoted to the Vancouver Sun, “I don’t think Vancouver’s seen anything like it before, or will see anything like this for a long time.”

In addition to the all-star entertainment, many Canadian celebrities attended, among them hockey greats Wayne Gretzky and Brett Hull. Former US President Bill Clinton, unable to attend in person, sent a taped address stating his support of the event. Pacific Destination Services Inc. was honoured to have the opportunity to contribute their services in support of such a worthy cause.
