Pacific Destination Services Clinches First Special Events Gala Award
Pacific Destination Services was honoured with nominations in three categories of awards at last Friday’s Special Events Gala Awards, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each year the Gala Awards honour the event industry’s top companies and individuals for their originality and creativity in producing events that raise the bar in the corporate incentive industry.

The three categories for which P.D.S. was nominated were Best Lighting, Best Theme Décor for a budget between $20,000-$50,000, and Best Event Entertainment Concept & Execution for a budget above $100,000. This is the first time that P.D.S. has received this honour and they are extremely proud to announce that they won in the first category, Best Lighting, for a major event that was produced in Vancouver in September of 2003.

This is the first year that Pacific Destination Services has been nominated for these awards. “To be chosen as finalists in all three categories was thrill enough, but to be honoured with a trophy on the first go around was amazing! This event was spectacular and, having seen the high quality of the other entrants, we are especially proud to have won,” says Joanne Burns Millar, President of Pacific Destination Services.

P.D.S.’s nominations were for an event that took place in the summer of 2003, a gala titled “Discoveries on Ice”. Part of a 5-day incentive program for a client of Landmark Incentive Marketing based in Chicago, Il, “Discoveries on Ice” was a spectacular dinner and ice show performance presented, on ice level, for the client’s guests. The show was produced exclusively for an intimate crowd of 100 participants at General Motors Place, home of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks. Elaborate staging, décor and lighting were used to create an intimate atmosphere for the guests at ice level. The Olympic theme was particularly relevant, given that Vancouver/Whistler will play hosts to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

The ice show brought together a talented array of Canadian athletes featuring Jaime Sale and David Pelletier, Canadian Olympic Gold Medalists in Pairs Skating at the 2002 Olympic Game in Salt Lake City. As well, the cast included former Canadian Olympians, top-level amateurs, and children from local figure skating clubs. It was a breathtaking private performance, choreographed specifically to capture the spirit of Canadian sport and the country’s Olympic passion.

“Our team, lead by Director of Operations, Terri Samson, together with our exceptional supplier partners, overcame some daunting challenges to turn our client’s vision into reality with this magical event on ice” says Joanne Burns Millar, President of Pacific Destination Services. Joanne and her team would like to thank each of the people involved in the success of “Discoveries on Ice” including Landmark Incentive Marketing, Art of the Party, Q1 Technologies, Rocky Mountain Sound, C4 Productions, Rand Productions, and Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment.
